Back to the root of all existence: being and nothingness.

13.8 billion light-years ago, in a vast dark environment where an energetic force was so dense and powerful enough to pressure a singularity matter to implode. By doing so, there was the creation of:

first Light, first Life, first concepts of Time and Space. The box containment: unfolded versus folded, and the act of the way how the paint is spread, tests the borders of chance, luck and gravity.

A series exploring all inside edges of a found box, and continuing the concept of unfolding, a box, and recycled art. ‘Objets trouvés’ are used as a starting point.

The box is a well designed product that is the result of a functional industrial and commercial process, to reduce it to its simplicity and essence, i.e. ‘Forms follow Function’.

In addition, a duality of time is visible, i.e. an intervention of an unfolded torn open, painted box, and another one of its past, with the visible folding lines of a sculptural object.

Varies between acrylic paint, liquid paint, paper-tape, ink and pastels on a cardboard box. A series of 39 unfolded painted boxes, various sizes. June – November 2021

The inception of the project started early 2020, when focusing more on the cube/square concept and the colour green for an ecology series. Also, when you look closely into one of the three green coloured boards,

an optical grid
illusion appears. One that is called the Hermann grid illusion. Grey circles are perceived at the intersections.
