I am intrigued by capturing images that narrate the life and interactions that occur within architecture.
What is important to my work is the individual picture. I photograph architectural photographs on commission, and of course they have to be put together coherently. But what matters most is that each picture stands out on it’s own, with its own story and feeling.
Capturing the built environment can be indifferent and cold, my perspective is different. As an Architect myself, I feel architectural photos can be bright and alive, adding an energy to it. Perhaps the same energy of the architects who designed these edifices. Accentuating this essence of a building makes the images sing with joy and shine a certain beauty.
I focus on making a building come alive by recording various ways in which everyday individuals give meaning and context to the architecture and spaces, also communicating how people use the space.
Not only do I look up see how the building ends in the urban scape, also having the compulsion to knock walls and brush surfaces everywhere I am. I explore a building intuitively by seeing it from unusual perspective, a more close-up shot where the viewer takes an active role in coming along this exploration with me. Regardless of whether the architectural photograph is complex and kaleidoscopic or simple and geometric, each image contains a captivating structure.
