Manali to Leh, Ladakh

Like on of my favourite quote says “it’s not about the destination, it’s all about the journey”, well this trip was a great example of this.

As a few key Bollywood movies show this Pangong Tso Lake, India, as something magical and grandiose, ie. 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, my fellow adventurers have spoken highly of this experience and was on their wish list for a long time. August seemed to be the best conditions to visit the lake. We started our travels in Hyderabad, this with the five of us, taking the train to New Delphi. After that a few local night buses to Manali. Then from Manali to Leh, Ladakh by jeep and Leh to Pangong Tso Lake by motorbike. The roads to get to Leh were rough, not only dealing with the altitude but also the weather conditions. Roads were very muddy and rocks kept falling down which causes delays. We managed to strike a deal with an experienced driver to take us first to Leh which took two days. Then in Leh we got three strong motorbikes, Royal Enfield, making sure they weren’t breaking during our trip. We passed many army check spots for our passport, not only providing First Aid ie. free oxygen but also warm tea.
